Q&A What do you like most about your job? I love the fact that I am able to make a living doing something I thoroughly enjoy and have a passion for. I especially like having a job where I am lucky enough to work outdoors and to enjoy nature on a daily basis. Dogs unconditional love and unwavering excitement for the little things in life (walks, doggie treats, being petted, seeing a familiar face) make every day an easy day to show up for work. I've also appreciated having the opportunity to spend time with and getting to know breeds of dogs I had never been familiar with in the past. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer? I get asked all the time what I charge for dog walks by potential customers. The answer depends on how many dogs I'm walking, the dog(s) age, breed, health condition, time duration, etc; but I start at $20 for a 25-30 minute walk. When I factor in gas and the time it takes to get to and from the job, the $20 rate is what I come up with to turn a profit and keep prices as low as possible for the client. Of course some people may have a large breed/high energy dog that requires a 45 minute walk, which would cost a little more, and some dog owners with two or more dogs have requested that their dogs be walked separately. Either way the final price would end up being based on the total amount of time it takes to walk one or more dogs. I'm also frequently asked if I charge extra when walking more than 1 dog at the same time. The answer to that question is almost always no; one exception would be if I was asked to walk three dogs at once. It's almost always best for myself as well as the dogs to simply walk two at a time and walk the the third (and/or fourth) separately.
