Things to do to reduce the risk of losing your dog:- 1. Make sure your dog is wearing a collar & tag at all times with its address and contact number on. 2. Make sure your dog is micro-chipped – this is now a legal requirement. 3. Make sure all the details held by the mirco-chipping company are up to date. If you are not sure ask your vet to check for you. 4. Make sure your dog has its license on. Things to do if you lose your dog :- 1. Ring the dog warden on 02871 261414 Opening hours are Mon to Fri 10am to 11am and 3.30pm to 4.30pm and 11am to 12pm on a Saturday. Stray dogs will be held for 5 days only before being rehomed or euthanized so it might be worth checking every day. 2. Ring The Rainbow Rehoming Centre on 02871 812882. Opening hours are Sun to Mon 12pm to 4pm and Tues & Fri 5.30pm to 7.30pm 3. Ring PET FBI on 0751 2280 760 and post on the PET FBI Facebook page with a picture of the dog including when and where it was last seen. 4. Post on your own facebook page and get friends to share. 5. Contact local vets. 6. Inform your local police station – DO NOT DIAL 999 ! 7. Print posters with a picture of your dog, description of the dog, when and where it was lost. It may also be worth offering a reward. The mention of a reward may attract even non animal lovers attention and encourage them to keep an eye out for your pet. Hand them out to local shops, take-aways, taxi drivers, delivery drivers etc. 8. Ask local radio stations if they would put out an appeal. 9. When your dog is found don’t forget to notify all the people above that you informed when it was missing. Things to do if you find a dog :- 1. Report the dog as found to the dog warden. This is a legal requirement. 2. Keep the dog somewhere safe. 3. If there are no contact details on the collar take the dog somewhere to be scanned for a microchip. This can be done at any Vets, Joylles Pet Shop, Pets At Home, Paws-Abilities dog groomers. 4. Ring PET FBI on 07716515026 . 5. Contact The Rainbow Rehoming Centre on 02871 812882. 6. Post a picture and description of the dog, and where it was found on PET FBI facebook page. Also post on your own page and ask friends to share. Please be careful when advertising a found dog not to give away too much information as it’s important that whoever claims to own the dog can answer various questions to prove ownership. This is to reduce the risk of a dog falling into the wrong hands.
