Description

From our simple beginning in 1965, The Peterborough Theatre Guild has entertained thousands of Peterborough area residents and visitors alike with award winning live theatre. The troupe performs its plays in the Guildhall located at 364 Rogers Street in Peterborough. The building (formerly St. Luke's Anglican Church) was gutted by fire in 1959. A local group of theatre enthusiasts raised the funds to purchase the old church and after extensive renovations, staged their first play just a few a years later. Because of the hard work and dedication by this group of people, the Theatre Guild is the only producing theatre company in the region which owns its own theatre. The box office is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5:30-8:00 PM. Except for days of performances, the box office will be open 1 hour before curtain time until curtain time. The First Production of the PTG 2014-2015 Season The Curious Savage by John Patrick directed by Glen Walker September 26th to October 11th The Curious Savage, written by John Patrick, is a comedic play about Ethel P. Savage, a woman whose husband recently died and left her approximately ten million dollars. She wants to give it away. So the step-children have her committed to a "home" where she meets some "quirky", lovable and amusing characters. What happens next? Contrasting the kindness and loyalty of psychiatric patients with the avarice and vanity of "respectable" public figures, it calls into question conventional definitions of sanity while lampooning celebrity culture. We invite media representatives to join us on tour day for pictures and handouts. TASS teachers and PTG volunteers will be available for interviews. Phase 1 is a tour of the theatre including stops such as Makeup/Hair Design, Costume Design, Set Design, Improv, Choreography, Stage Management, and Directing. The tour begins in the theatre auditorium at 12:45 pm and ends at 2:15pm. The tour is designed to introduce the students to a number of facets of the theatre process so that they may select workshops to attend next month. On October 7, 8, and 9 seven workshops will be available to the TASS students. At school this fall the students will be doing theatre study, and they will research the history of East City at the Museum Archives with the objective of writing scenarios to perform at PTG. @PTBOTheatre Peterborough Theatre Guild Applauds One of its Own Peterborough Theatre Guild is proud to honour one of its own members who was recognized on Pathway of Fame on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Community Betterment is the important category into which Barbara Beck was nominated on the Pathway of Fame. Barb Beck, a long-time advocate for social justice and consumer issues has also devoted many decades of her time to Peterborough Theatre Guild (PTG). Barb with her late husband Dick ‘played many parts’ at PTG. During its founding the Becks were counted among the initial sponsors of the theatre. The Becks held countless jobs onstage, backstage and in administration. They were cast in the chorus of Pajama Game early in their PTG careers. Barb was the chair of the Board of Directors from 1989 through 1995 and she served as production executive committee president on the board in 1984/85. Barb also served backstage in productions as stage manager. Barb is one of the PTG family, and all Guild volunteers are very proud that she is receiving this much deserved honour. Congratulations Barb!
