Philadelphia Girls School of Design & Technology A school for "sun-crowned girls whose voices cry aloud and give a challenge to the whole world's thinking." -- M.M. Bethune PGSDT will be a design and technology school for approximately 24 to 30 girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. We will not only follow the Standards Aligned System set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, but we will also make sure that all subjects meet the ISTE Standards for Students. The PGSDT girl will be: - an EMPOWERED LEANER - a GLOBAL COLLABORATOR - a DIGITAL CITIZEN - a CREATIVE COMMUNICATOR - a KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTOR - a COMPUTATIONAL THINKER - an INNOVATIVE DESIGNER PGSDT will be a school where girls come first. With radical roots, we will replace "etiquette" with "entrepreneurship" and instill a profound sense of self-respect and self-reliance for all. No dress code will exist at PGSDT. Girls will be free to dress for their own self-expression. And while self-expression and self-reliance remain a pillar at PGSDT, we will grow stronger through collaboration. The school's physical space will support co-thinking and collaboration above arbitrary separation by age. Our girls and teachers will eat together each day in a device-free gathering for our version of a "genius hour". Our design draws inspiration from today's modern collaborative and open work spaces as we challenge and disrupt the traditional brick & mortar school in both pedagogy and structure. PGSDT commits to providing no less than 20% of the student body with scholarship opportunities. Any and all tuition and donation monies not utilized for professional development, technology upgrades, and facility maintenance will be utilized solely for scholarships and financial assistance.
