Here are just some of the various benefits of body scrubs you may not be aware of... Benefit #1 – Skin Glow One of the biggest benefits to body scrubs, particularly the salt scrub, is the all -over healthy glow that your skin is left with. Benefit #2 – Exfoliating It might seem like an obvious benefit to mention, but body scrubs are a great way to exfoliate or remove complexion-dulling dead skin cells. Exfoliating increases cell turnover to reveal newer, healthier skin cells, plus it decreases blackheads, minimizes hyperpigmentation and fine lines, This paves the way for fresh new cells to regenerate and leaves you looking and feeling fabulous. Planning a body scrub for exfoliating benefits is best in the fall and spring, right before you start to tan and when your tan starts to fade. Of course, exfoliating is great any time especially if you want soft silky skin. But it does much more than that. It also helps with hydration and leaves your skin soft and silky. It helps cells transitioning from below the skin’s surface to the topmost layer bring with them essential lipids and moisture. You can exfoliate with exfoliant scrubs, dry brushing and or scrubbing mitts using medium to light pressure to remove the layers of the dead, over tanned, pealing skin or even the build up from your routine spray tan Benefit #3 – Increasing Flow When you get a body scrub, it encouraging the natural flow of circulation and bodily fluids within. For the best results have a professional massage therapist apply the body scrub, incorporating a massage will increase the correct circulation and flow benefits. Benefit #4 – Improve Cellulite and Aging There are some claims that certain types of body scrubs can actually improve the look of aging and dimpled skin from cellulite. There is no miracle cure, but it certainly won’t hurt to try a body scrub that is enhanced with coffee. The coffee grounds are the best option for use on cellulite prone areas of the body. These types of body scrubs are great if you love the smell of coffee, too. Benefit #5 – Relaxation Treating yourself to a body scrub, especially when combined with a massage, is just plain relaxing. Having a body scrub done by a professional allows you to incur the benefit with out the mess or stress. Plus, when you have a choice of essential oils to add to your body scrub, the effects are even more potent. Lavender is a great choice because of its known relaxing qualities. There may be other scents that you find relaxing, so be sure to ask if essential oils can be incorporated.

Prenatal Massage: Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage, which aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy. Benefits: Hormone Regulation Reduction of Swelling Improvment of nerve pain Reduced back pain Reduced joint pain Improved circulation Reduced edema Reduced muscle tension and headaches Reduced stress and anxiety Improved oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles Better sleep

What is an Emotional Release? Massage therapy benefits provide a soothing and comforting alternative to verbal therapeutic techniques, such as counseling. A phenomenon called emotional release sometimes happens during a massage session. Unexpressed emotions that are held in the body may come to the surface when receiving massage therapy. How this happens is much the same as reaching out to a friend who is hurting and you touch their hand or shoulder. A tear might come quite involuntarily. It just happens… and needs to be released. The right circumstance and the right person will elicit a release at anytime in our lives. Emotional Benefits: Reduces anxiety Generates confidence and feeling of well being Enhances self-image and self-worth Satisfies the need for caring and nourishing touch Relaxation induces a feeling of physical, mental and emotional well being (reduction of excess stress) Provides a soothing and comforting alternative to verbal therapeutic techniques, such as counseling Reduces sense of isolation Increases awareness of the mind-body connection Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance that massage therapy provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more physical benefits.

Ergonomics tips for your office/work place: Starting with your chair, have your chair at a height where your feet are planted on the ground and your back is fully supported and in an up right position. Your computer screen should be at eye level so your not looking up, down or to one side. Your mouse, if possible should be a static pad on your keyboard and your keyboard should be on your lap. This way your elbows are to your sides. If you are not looking up or down or to the side for long periods of time, your neck won't kink up on you. If your feet are firmly planted on the ground you will sit up straight which will result in better posture. If your keyboard and mouse are on your lap you won't be bending forward causing lower back pain or over extending your reach for them creating that horrible pain in your mouse arm and shoulder. Rember that repetative incorrect posture and movement results in chronic pain and discomfort. Pay attention to your posture starting today.

What Can Massage Therapy Do For You? So, what can regular massage therapy do for those of us dedicated to living a fitness lifestyle. In this arena, massage therapy is much more than a mere luxury. It should be regarded as part and parcel of your dedication to living a healthy life. Research establishes that regular massage therapy improves range of motion, reduces recovery time, increases muscle tone, and increases flexibility. Since massage acts as an "auxiliary heart" by increasing circulation, it thus facilitates the elimination of toxins and other metabolic wastes generated as a byproduct of resistance training. Additionally, massage therapy reduces the time that it takes the body to heal an injury.

Health benefits of taking probiotics Bacteria have a reputation for causing disease, so the idea of tossing down a few billion a day for your health might seem — literally and figuratively — hard to swallow. But a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that you can treat and even prevent some illnesses with foods and supplements containing certain kinds of live bacteria. Northern Europeans consume a lot of these beneficial microorganisms, called probiotics (from pro and biota, meaning “for life”), because of their tradition of eating foods fermented with bacteria, such as yogurt. Probiotic-laced beverages are also big business in Japan. Enthusiasm for such foods has lagged in the United States, but interest in probiotic supplements is on the rise. Some digestive disease specialists are recommending them for disorders that frustrate conventional medicine, such as irritable bowel syndrome. Since the mid-1990s, clinical studies have established that probiotic therapy can help treat several gastrointestinal ills, delay the development of allergies in children, and treat and prevent vaginal and urinary infections in women. Self-dosing with bacteria isn’t as outlandish as it might seem. An estimated 100 trillion microorganisms representing more than 500 different species inhabit every normal, healthy bowel. These microorganisms (or microflora) generally don’t make us sick; most are helpful. Gut-dwelling bacteria keep pathogens (harmful microorganisms) in check, aid digestion and nutrient absorption, and contribute to immune function.

AROMATHERAPY The use of essential oils (extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods, and roots) in body and skin care treatments is known as aromatherapy. Used as a healing technique for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, essential oils aid in relaxation, improve circulation, and help the healing of wounds. Specific essential oils are blended by the aromatherapist and added to a carrier oil, such as almond oil, to be used during the massage. Each oil has its own unique characteristics and benefits.
