Pier 21 is a National Historic Site. It was the gateway to Canada for one million immigrants between 1928 and 1971 and the departure point for 500,000 Canadian military personnel during the Second World War. La Loi sur les musées instaure le mandat du Musée canadien de l’immigration du Quai 21 : Le but du Musée canadien de l’immigration du Quai 21 est d’explorer le thème de l’immigration au Canada en vue d’accroître la compréhension du public à l’égard des expériences vécues par les immigrants au moment de leur arrivée au Canada, du rôle essentiel que l’immigration a joué dans le développement du Canada et de la contribution des immigrants à la culture, à l’économie et au mode de vie canadiens.
