Pioneer High School is a public high school located in the Blossom Valley district of San Jose, California. It is one of six high schools in the San Jose Unified School District, and is a science magnet school with an interdisciplinary focus on community service and service learning. It was nominated for California Distinguished School awards in 2008, 2006, 2000, and 1996.AcademicsPioneer High School is a California Public High School, and therefore has to abide by rules and regulations set forth by the California State Government. Each student has a certain amount of unit requirements under different categories that they must complete in order to graduate. There are a number of accelerated and Advanced Placement classes students can choose from, as well as mock trial and radio broadcasting extra-curricular activities that they can choose to be involved in. The yearbook was a semi-finalist in the year 2006, and in the 2006-2007 school year the yearbook was chosen as the national sample.Pioneer High School has received 4 California Distinguished School awards (1996,2000,2006,and 2008), has been awarded the Santa Clara County Top Ten High School award, and has been listed in the Mercury News as a National Service Learning Leader School from 1998-2006. The school's Academic Performance index in 2007 was 801/1000, putting it in the top 20% of schools and classifying it under the "Very High Performing School" category. Pioneer has never failed to achieve the growth goals expected of them under the No Child Left Behind Act.

Silver Creek High School is a high school located in San Jose, California which is operated by the East Side Union High School District. It is a California Distinguished School.AccomplishmentsSilver Creek High School Silver Creek is one of only eight high schools in the nation to produce two Olympic Champions. Millard Hampton, a graduate of Silver Creek, won a Gold Medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in the 400-meter relay and a Silver Medal in the 200-meter dash. Andre Phillips, also a Silver Creek graduate, won a Gold Medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in the 400-meter hurdles.Silver Creek holds an annual Track and Field invitational titled "Hampton Phillips Classic" held at San Jose City College. The Track and Field meet in named after Millard Hampton and Andre Phillips. Silver Creek has won several CCS, League, and State titles in Track and Field and Cross Country. Silver Creek's Track and Field team remains in "Mt. Hamilton Division" in the Blossom Valley League. Silver Creek's Cross Country team also remains in "Mt. Hamilton Division" ever since the Blossom Valley League was created.The AP Program at Silver Creek is the largest in its district, offering 18 AP Classes. Its AP Calculus Program, taught by Mrs. Guttal, is one of the best in the nation. For the past 26 years, students taking the AP Calculus BC Exam have had a 100% passing rate, obtaining an average score of 5. On the other hand, students taking AP Calculus AB have also had 100% passing rates for 4 consecutive years so far. In 2007, it was the first time that all AB students passed with all 5s and one 4.
