The Family Information Service offers free, friendly, professional and impartial guidance on the latest services and support available to members of all the family. We provide information on; Registered Childcare (childcare which has been approved by the Government inspection agency Ofsted) - Day Nurseries - Pre-Schools - Childminders - Out of School Care Non registered Childcare - Holiday Playschemes - Parent and Toddler groups We can provide parents/ carers with lists of childcare in their area and give information on choosing childcare. We can also provide information on toy libraries, schools, leisure activities, family support services and directory of children and family services. Support with childcare costs There are a number of avenues to explore to gain help with childcare costs. We can provide information on Me2 Funding, Early Years 3-4 year old funding and Childcare Vouchers and we can signpost to our Financial Inclusion Service who can provide a check to see whether you are entitled to help with childcare costs through other avenues such as Working Tax Credit. The Financial Inclusion Service can also provide you with benefit calculations to see what you may be entitled too, help with benefit forms and general queries. Becoming a Childminder We start the registration process for prospective Childminders. Advice Plymouth Advice Plymouth is a partnership of not-for-profit advice agencies, commissioned by Plymouth City Council to deliver a co-ordinated advice and information service for the people of Plymouth. The partners are The Routeways Centre, Age UK Plymouth, Plymouth Guild and Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau. If it is notourselves, we will refer you to the relevant agency in this partnership. Mount Edgecombe - Smugglers Market Sunday 25 May 2014 from 10am to 4pm The pirates of St Piran will arrive at Mount Edgcumbe onboard a real pirate ship which will moor just offshore. They’ll be joined by dastardly smugglers from across Cornwall and Plymouth who will set-up a themed market. Will you be lucky enough to take a trip onboard? With cannons firing, pirates singing and treasure being spilt - who wouldn’t want to come along to this red letter day event? Entry to the event is free of charge - all day parking is £5 per vehicle.

Light Fantastic 28-29th November 2014 1914-2014 Three Towns - One City Friday 28 November 2014 Come and see the community-inspired illuminations at Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse on The Hoe, Devonport Guildhall and the Palace Theatre in Stonehouse. Saturday 29 November 2014 Watch the 'Grand Finale' at Plymouth Guildhall and the Civic Centre in the city centre. We hope to have other fun activities, lanterns, hot chocolate and music too. Full details will be added to this page as they are confirmed. Both evenings begin at 6.30pm and will run until 9pm. They're free and there's no need to book. Pirate Day & Muppet Treasure Island - Devonport Library Sat, October 4, 10am – 11am at Devonport (St Aubyn) Library, Chapel St, Plymouth, Arr mateys! Avoid cabin fever and join Kermit and Miss Piggy for a day of Pirate fun and games: sing-a-long sea shanties, a treasure hunt and a chance to make your own Jolly Roger pirate ship and treasure chest. Then set sail with the Muppets to battle the dastardly Long John Silver! Pirate activities from 10am. Muppet onscreen mayhem starts at 2pm Prizes awarded for the best costumes.
Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, Drake Circus, Plymouth The Imaginators' Create, enjoy, explore - fun sessions for the under 5s Play, explore, paint, stick, sing or make - anything's possible in an Imaginators session as your pre-school children are taken on a journey around our galleries, objects and paintings by one of our Learning Officers, having loads of fun as they go. The children learn to build relationships and try their hand at a variety of creative activities using their developing skills - and their imaginations! Younger siblings/older babies are welcome too. Just £2 per child per session plus £1 for siblings. Advance booking is advised through our Welcome Desk or by calling 01752 304774. Any unreserved places can be booked on the day although we cannot guarantee there will be any available!
