Oklahoma's only private elementary school and social services agency specifically for homeless children. Positive Tomorrows is Oklahoma’s only private elementary school specifically for homeless children. Almost 100 students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade attend Positive Tomorrows each year, where they receive education while their families get support to create a better life.

Description

We help by meeting basic needs of our children to remove barriers to learning, by teaching families to become self-sufficient and by providing education to children who are academically and socially behind due to the chaos in their lives. In reality, we provide something much greater than the sum of our programs – we give hope today, along with the promise for a better tomorrow.

General Info

HISTORY: As a result of the 1989 Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness, Positive Tomorrows was a collaborative creation of several community organizations concerned with the impact of homelessness on children's education. Founding partners included OKC Public Schools, State Dept. of Education, CampFire USA, Neighborhood Services Organization and the YWCA. The original purpose was to help homeless families collect needed documentation to enroll their children into a public school. In 1997 Positive Tomorrows moved into its current location. Due to a change in the Federal Grant guidelines, in 2006 Positive Tomorrows became ineligible for government funding and was no longer a part of OKC Public Schools. Today Positive Tomorrows is a private, tuition-free elementary school meeting the educational and social service needs of homeless children and their families.
