What began as a hobby quickly blossomed into a successful and rewarding small business. Dan Punch had been performing live bee removals & relocations during his free time on nights and weekends while working full-time as the head beekeeper at the Arizona State University Honeybee Research Facility at ASU’s Polytechnic campus in Mesa, AZ. After a very busy season, Dan officially established Punch Honeybee Company in the spring of 2014. In August of 2014, Dan partnered with his predecessor at ASU, Nick Baker. Nick shares a passion for honeybees having obtained his Master of Science in Biology from ASU during his 8 year tenure at the ASU Honeybee Research Lab. Together they share a love and knowledge of honeybees, bee behavior, construction/remodeling, and of course the taste for honey, to make Punch Honeybee Company a unique business that not only works to save the honeybee, but also to educate people about these fascinating creatures. Dan and Nick are experts when it comes to “Africanized” bees and their behavior and are extremely successful in their relocation. They have developed their own methods and tools that they use to safely and humanely extract colonies ALIVE from almost any structure or situation. They are currently researching and developing methods with former colleagues in which they can use the Africanized honeybee to combat Colony Collapse Disorder. To date, Punch Honeybee has rescued over 500 bee colonies from homes and businesses throughout the valley. All of the bee colonies they rescue, relocate, and maintain are kept on farms all over the Phoenix and surrounding areas. Punch Honeybee is a member of the Beekeepers Association of Central Arizona (BACA) and the Organic Beekeepers Group. Dan and Nick maintain all of their honeybee colonies without the use of antibiotics or chemicals. Forty percent of revenue from all sales and services is used to purchase equipment to house and to maintain their current and future bee colonies. Please feel free to call us anytime with questions regarding bees, their relocation, or to purchase honey and beeswax products.
