Registered non-profit benefitting survivors of sexual violence and/or sexual abuse. Founded to honour our niece, Rehtaeh Parsons.http://www.rolhavens.org/
Rae of Light was created by Shari Canning and Kim Canning-DeAngelis to honour their niece Rehtaeh Parsons, who repeatedly told her father that the greatest thing he could do for her in the aftermath of her rape and subsequent torment, was to "make her laugh," "to do everything possible to keep a part of her life normal". Keeping Rehtaeh's wishes in mind, through Rae of Light we hope to offer survivors of violence a chance to find their own sense of "normal," even if only for a short while.

We are busy as bees getting ready for tomorrow night. If you can make it to Crazy Horse in Kanata we would love to see you! We have a great silent auction table as well as two West Jet tickets AND two Porter tickets up for live auction! Let the good times roll!
Our retreat for June 2015 is now full! If you would like to secure a spot for future retreats please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Don't forget we are always taking applications for cottages so if you are a survivor who needs a peaceful place to get away this summer we are here to help...and it's free.
We have had such an overwhelming response to our retreat that as of today we only have one spot left! Please apply at email@example.com if you would like to secure the last spot.
We wish everyone a very happy holiday season filled with light and love. We feel blessed to have met such inspirational survivors over this past year and look forward to helping many more in 2015. Thank you all so much for your support....it truly means so much to us. Shari & Kim
There have been many triggers in the media over the last few days regarding sexual assault and abuse. We would like to encourage anyone who is feeling overwhelmed to call their local Distress Line or Rape Crisis Center. Whether it happened yesterday or 30 years ago, sexual assault and abuse are horrific events that individuals should not have to shoulder alone and although we cannot help on a professional level, we do offer a brief reprieve for survivors through both our cottage and retreat programs. If this is something that you would be interested in as a survivor please visit our website ROLHavens.org or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be more than happy to help. ‘we believe’ City of Ottawa Distress Line 613.239.3311 Ottawa Rape Crisis Center 613.562.2333 Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa 613.613.2602360
This past weekend we witnessed a unique healing journey for 5 women at our very first retreat for sexual assault and/or abuse survivors. Arriving as strangers to an unknown destination they left as sisters, never to walk alone again. We were both deeply touched by their courage and moved to tears during their special dockside prayer for our beautiful angel Rehtaeh who continues to be the inspiration behind such change.... We want to extend a special thank-you to Connie from "Dinner at Home" who generously donated a beautiful dinner to rave reviews!
