Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome to a new school year! We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some important information and provide you with contact information for any potential questions or concerns. Student Marks Marks will be a total of 3 exams and attendance. In order for the best learning experience of all students, consistent attendance is extremely important. Marks will also take 3 examinations into account. There will be two term exams and one final exam. Prior to each exam, teachers will provide the students with the information that will be examined. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any exam related questions. Dates for the exams and the mark breakdown are listed below (*Gr6 marks will be different than below): Attendance 10% Term 1 Exam – December 21, 2014 25% Term 2 Exam – March 22, 2015 25% Final Exam – June 14, 2015 40% Important Dates In addition to the above exams dates, there are a few other important dates we would like to inform you about. - Wednesday, December 31, 2014 – New Year’s Eve Program: students of Punjabi and Kirtan will be performing from the Gurdwara stage - Sunday, January 4, 2015 - no class - Sunday, May 17, 2015 – Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan: no formal class due to of the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan but the Kirtan students will be doing Kirtan on the school float while other students will be expected to join the school float. - Saturday, June 20, 2015 – Year End Picnic: tentative date - Sunday, June 21, 2015 – regular class - Sunday, June 28, 2015 – Year End Parent-Teacher Meeting & Awards Recognition *A newsletter will be provided near the end of the school year confirming these dates and times. Registration/Uniform Reminder Lastly, please ensure you have filled out a registration form and paid the registration fee. Students who attend class but have not paid the registration fee will not graduate to the next class until registration is paid. Please ensure students wear their uniform to school: Royal blue color: Dupatta, Turban, Patka, Salwar, Pants. White color: Kameez or shirt Kirtan Classes: The registration for the Kirtan classes is still being accepted. The classes are held every Friday (6pm-8pm) and Sunday (1:00pm-3:00pm). Instructors for Harmonium are Dr. Kamaljit Kaur Gill (PhD in Music) and Kuldip Kaur Chana. Interested students/parents can see Dr. Gill during the class times or register in the school office, Room 206 on Sundays 10:30am-12:30pm. The applicants must be at least seven years of age and bring their own harmonium. We have scheduled mid-year parent-teacher meetings. For those registered in Punjabi school, the meeting will be January 26/14 at 12:30pm. For those registered in Kirtan school, the meeting will be February 9/14 at 12:15pm. Meetings will be in your child's assigned classroom. Additional Learning Arts & Crafts Based on the success of the craft session in last year, the craft sessions will be scheduled for all grades. The craft sessions will focus around Sikh history. Kuljeet Kaur Bhuee will be leading the Arts and Crafts sessions with the help of the school teachers and volunteers. Computer Lab A computer lab is being installed for senior-level students. The labs will focus on teaching students to type in Gurmukhi, conduct online research on Sikhi related topics, create presentations, and will introduce students to online resources that will enable self-learning in the future. Sewa and Hands-on Learning Senior-level students will be given the opportunity to participate in sewa and hands-on learning in the Gurdwara. This module will include an introduction to the history of the sewa, its purpose, and impact on daily living. An example includes Chaur Sewa at monthly Divans.
