Rapid Hose Co. No. 1 is actively seeking new members to become volunteer firefighters to serve our community in Kingston. This commitment typically involves training on Monday nights except during holidays and over the summer and manning Engine 6 to assist the paid city firefighters as needed. Primary tasks can include standing by in quarters during active emergencies to provide supplemental emergency protection for the city, debris removal in active fire emergency situations to enhance safety in such circumstances, emergency scene clean up and hose rolling to assist with a timely emergency scene departure, tarp deployment and property protection / recovery efforts in smoky and wet environments, and first in fire suppression / life saving tasks should alternative manpower be unavailable. Ideal candidates have free time that's conducive to volunteering, have a willingness to learn new skills, be willing to endure light to moderate physical activity for short to moderate timeframes, and be willing to follow orders and function within the command structure as established by the paid fire department of the city of Kingston. Parties only interested in fighting fires or people who complain a lot need not apply.
