Redemption is a ministry dedicated to equipping individuals to help themselves. Moving forward … Together … One step at a time.
Redemption was founded by Lynda Arthey .. Here is her story. "Redemption was created in my heart as a child as I saw the need of people both in Canada and around the world. As the years passed, I saw the devastation in individuals and families through such things as war, addictions, divorce, abuse and financial problems as well as recognizing my own areas of brokenness through things that happened in my own life. After raising my family I found myself walking the streets, talking with people and listening to their stories. Arising from this, after years of carrying it in my heart, a ministry was born twenty plus years ago in the core of downtown Brampton. Most of my time was spent walking and visiting people, building trust and relationships. I went wherever people were except for one night a week when we met inside over coffee and sandwiches and brought in guests to begin to address people’s issues. We outgrew that space and moved to a new larger location. Abuse and Mental Health were on the agenda until one day a man came in from the streets cold and hungry with frozen feet covered in sores. We fed him, cleaned his feet and got him new socks and shoes. The next day he was back with his friends and so we grew day by day until we overflowed the space we had. Because we had grown so big we were forced to leave that building and spent some time on the streets while we looked for a new space. While we were on the street we managed to feed people daily through a local restaurant and continued to go to wherever the people were in small rooms, tents, sheds, bushes, jail or in the hospital. God blessed us with a new space where we were for a few years, but in the interim God was changing my heart. He didn’t want me to enable people to stay where they were. He wanted to set the captives free. He desired that they would come to know Him and that He would work in their lives to release them from their pain and brokenness setting them free to be all He has created them to be. So began a new and exciting way of looking at the ministry. A focus on what God had created people to be, not what life and circumstances had moulded them into. To create a safe place where individuals can come and be at peace. To love them and with mercy and grace extended, to see whom they will become as with respect and dignity they receive healing. Empowering people with knowledge and tools enables them to walk out of their dysfunction and bondage and into health and wholeness. A key piece to moving forward is surrounding people with boundaries of accountability and responsibility." Our desire is not to make you feel sorry for people or exploit the condition of their need, but to see the possibilities in each individual and create a desire to be part of the redemption and restoration of precious lives.
