A full renovation of a landmark milliner building, the Refinery Hotel maintains the grandeur and aesthetic of pre-war architecture while adding modern touches like a fully functional rooftop lounge and rooms with all the right gadgets.
Uprooted by its history, Refinery Hotels embraces the heritage of its location. Standing on 38th Street between 6th Avenue & 5th Avenue, the hotel resides in the heart of the Garment District just south of Bryant Park. Previously known as the Colony Arcade, the building served as a workplace for milliners, the craftsmen responsible for giving people a "refined" look with their meticulously tailored hats. The Refinery pays homage to milliners through its guest rooms, which have desks crafted to resemble sewing tables. The sense of style, attention to detail and drive that went into millinery in the early 1900s return in 2013 in the form of Refinery Hotel.
197 guest rooms sprawling 12 floors are elegantly tailored and custom furnished. The decor and ambience of the rooms are shot through with industrial accents, harking to the property's millinery history. Rooms spread between 250 -square-feet to 475-square-feet, with ceilings rising 12 feet, allowing for unlimited natural sunlight.
Refinery Hotel has an array of dining and drinking options, serving as a microcosm of Manhattan's robust culinary scene. The hotel truly does "refine" its history with Winnie's Refined Spirits Lounge, a nod to Winifred T. McDonald, a savvy entrepreneur who turned the Colony Arcade into an escape for milliners and women shopping on Fifth Avenue looking to kick back and enjoy some "tea." Dapper mixologists will take up shop in Winnie's that is sure to have New York City's most devout hipsters coming back for more.
Parker & Quinn restaurant with a secret entrance from the hotel as well as separate entrance off 39th Street will be a vibrant local scene. Open kitchen where one can interact with chef as he puts out the locally sourced, American bistro small plates items. Elevated booths where friends can pile to enjoy the view.
A coveted New York City rooftop is just one other feature that sets Refinery apart from other hotels. This is no ordinary rooftop. Refinery Rooftop is partitioned into 3 hangout sections: indoor, outdoor and in case you can't decide, a section with a little bit of both. Discover artisanal cocktails and selective wines to cinematic views of Manhattan and the Empire State Building. A retractable glass roof will enhance the city sunsets. In interior is paved with vintage French terracotta floors.
