Description

RSVP volunteers are referred only to volunteer stations that have agreed to provide written job descriptions, needed training, orientation and supervision for the volunteers. These agencies also agree to report monthly hours to RSVP. There is as wide a variety of volunteer assignments as there are volunteers! Volunteers may work on call, in their homes or in groups, in addition to regular weekly assignments in a local agency. RSVP volunteer stations include such non-profit agencies as Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Senior Citizen Services, as well as city, county and state government offices, parks and recreation facilities, school systems, museums, hospitals, nursing homes, human service agencies and many others. The main benefit to RSVP volunteers is the personal attention by the staff to insure a good volunteer match and when needed, on-going consultation with RSVP staff about different and/or additional assignments. Also, all RSVP volunteers are provided with free supplemental volunteer accident/liability insurance, transportation reimbursement (contingent upon availability of funds and eligibility of applicant), newsletters, volunteer training opportunities, social events and annual recognition.

General Info

The Tarrant County RSVP began recruitment in 1972 under the sponsorship of the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County. In 1996, Senior Citizen Services of Greater Tarrant County, Inc. was proud to become the sponsor and home of RSVP. RSVP now serves over 1,150 volunteers in 130 different stations or agencies. Annually RSVP volunteers give more than 191,000 hours of volunteer time. Operating funds are provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
