Why New Years Resolutions Fail! It's nearly 2016 and time to review your old life and start a new one. I will now lose weight, save money and call my parents more often - this year I will achieve all my New Year's resolutions for sure! It’s a bit of a psychological story, but the conclusion is: there is a reason why New Year’s resolutions fail so often. “Quit Smoking", for example, is most frequently Googled in January. The term “Lose Weight" spikes in search queries as well for the beginning of each year. “Cookies", however, are searched the most in December each year. This indicates already that we might be quite predictable in our behavior. Obviously, the majority of humans loves repetition, traditions and feels comfortable in known situations. A real life change is often a challenge to big to handle in one year and can be too overwhelming for the individual. Breaking habits means insecurity and many new situations. What should I do in a cigarette break, if not having a smoke? Should I really bake a cake for the office on my birthday, although I will be tempted to eat some of it? Can I stick with water when going to a club? In 2007 study it found nearly 90% of the participants actually fail in keeping their resolutions, although in the beginning more than 50% were confident of success. So what can you do to make your resolution a real success? 1 Only make one resolution at a time. 2 Plan your resolution process. 3 Be specific and set small goals. 4 Use Clinical Hypnotherapy for lasting change. Depending on your preferences, announce your new resolution in public or keep your plan realistic and achievable with measurable small goals. But most important: Do not try to get back to your comfort zone, just because it is so ridiculously easy to do so. See new experiences as a challenge and a broadening of your mind.
