Description

I am an orthopedic surgeon in San Francisco, CA. Given the constraints on communicating health information, it is unclear how to best utilize social media as a health professional. I have decided to not limit myself to medical topics with relevance to orthopedics. Not only do the medical-legal considerations hamper a real discussion of these issues, there are other sites and venues that are more appropriate for this type of information. The content that I am motivated to share includes healthy AND tasty recipes, links about weight loss and healthy eating, motivational messages, injury prevention (especially as it pertains to pediatric sports injuries). This reflects a more complete picture of myself. I am an ex-collegiate athlete. I have had to re-define my understanding of health and fitness. I struggle with a creaky knee and a waistline that believes in suburban sprawl. I am an orthopedic surgeon with an interest in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. I am a parent with all the typical concerns. In addition, this new direction allows me to pursue interests that are not relevant to an orthopedic surgeon's page. I am a husband of a breast cancer survivor. I am a father of a brain cancer survivor. My hope is that you find this new focus more relevant and ultimately more enjoyable.
