The Rosa L. Parks Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to awarding scholarships to Michigan high school seniors who hold close to Mrs. Parks' ideals.
Since it was founded by The Detroit News and Detroit Public Schools in 1980, The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation has awarded over $1,800,000 in scholarship money to more than 900 high school seniors. The Foundation awards approximately forty $2,000 non-renewable scholarships annually. "Rosa Parks devoted her life to creating access and opportunities for everyone, and the Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation's goal is a reflection of that," said Delora Hall-Tyler, former President of the Foundation. "With the passing of Mrs. Parks (in 2005), we feel it is more important than ever to continue her legacy by helping young people meet their educational goals, which in turn allows them to achieve a better life."
