Description

Our Club is the oldest club in the Geelong Region dating back to 1925. We are strongly committed to community service be that locally or internationally where in recent times we have supported improving the quality of life for village people in Nabavatu Fiji, Sariri Papua New Guinea, Northern Sri Lanka following the 2006 tsunami, schools in Samoa and a hospital in Viqueque in East Timor. Locally the focus has been on supporting children and families, including, Bethany Father of the Year, Rotary Golf Day raising funds for Barwon Health, Read the Play , an activity for youth with mental health , drug and alcohol issues, and building a sandpit for a Kinder to achieve their accreditation. Among our many activities is the management of the Old Geelong Gaol, where our Rotarians act as tour guides enabling locals and visitors to experience its atmosphere and follow its history. Recently Tony Robinson from UK TV Time Team filmed part of a series in the Old Gaol in which our members played the "tour group" being shown around this historic building. Tourism event companies provide additional attractions at the Gaol, one of the most successful being the Ghost Tours. At June 2013 we have some 80 members from a broad age group and a wide range of professions and businesses including a number of Corporate members who join as a corporate team and rotate their members weekly as an opportunity to engage in community service and for personal development"
