This page will be to keep members and the public up to date on Br. 564's events. Executive meetings: 1st Tuesday of month at 7:00 p.m. General meetings: 2nd Tuesday of month at 7:30 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary: 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. Current President is Warren Ginson 1st vice Chris Peters 2nd vice 3rd vice Secretary Treasurer SGT at arms Our story: In spring of 1957 our first meeting was held in the recreational room of a private home with 22 perspective members in attendance. In a short time veterans in the area decided to join and a charter was granted to branch #564. At this time we had 22 charter members and 17 founding members with meetings being held at a small club house on Rumball Drive before moving to another small club on Walford Rd. Membership started to grow so much a larger club became a priority and once more branch #564 relocated, this time to a larger place more suitable for meetings and social functions at the Plaza 69 Shopping Mall and we remained there for the next 5 years. By 1965 membership had again increased so much that another larger hall was needed and 564 picked up and moved to Manitou Airways on Sunnyside Rd. Tragedy struck however in 1969 when a fire broke out and the building and all its contents were lost, but with the generosity of our comrades at branch #76 we were able to hold our meetings uninterrupted and a replacement charter was soon received. Members by now were quite frustrated with the constant relocating that a building committee was formed. From there a suitable piece of land was found and purchased by the generosity of the Ladies Auxiliary and branch members. When construction started in the spring we had only $0.39 in the bank and completed construction late that fall of 1970. In 1976 we were able to burn the mortgage papers and in 1991 we added an addition to the building which gave us a board room, dance floor and kitchen facilities with a handi capable washroom further added on shortly after. The Legion is a veterans' community-based organization which any Canadian citizen, Commonwealth subject or citizen of an allied country can join. We were founded by veterans, for veterans more than eight decades ago and with almost 400,000 members in 1,590 branches we ensure Canadian veterans of all ages receive everything they so richly deserve.
