<p><b>Royal Derby Hospital</b>, is one of two teaching <a href="/pages/w/112337018778218">hospital</a>s in the city of <a href="/pages/w/108050889223312">Derby</a>, the other being the <a href="/pages/w/136052999758664">London Road Community Hospital</a>. It is the second largest hospital in the <a href="/pages/w/112348692114257">East Midlands</a>, and is one of the largest hospitals in the UK. The two hospitals are run by Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The hospital has completed a massive rebuild, doubling the size of the buildings. This modern facility has 1139 beds, of which 30% are in single occupancy rooms, and 35 operating theatres. More than 300 consultants and 7000 nurses and other staff provide medical care for a local population of approximately 660,000 people and subspecialty populations of over one million patients. The hospitals are major teaching centres for the <a href="/pages/w/107574525939235">University of Nottingham</a> <a href="/pages/w/112496615433937">medical school</a> including the <a href="/pages/w/111538338898800">graduate entry medical school</a> .</p><p><a href="/pages/w/135677119799608">Derbyshire Children's Hospital</a> is co-located on the Royal Derby Hospital site.</p><p>The city's <a href="/pages/w/103084959731999">Accident and Emergency</a> department relocated to this hospital from the former site at <a href="/pages/w/111248562259795">Derbyshire Royal Infirmary</a>.
