at The Gardens of the Rose, Chiswell Green Lane, Saint Albans , AL2 3NY United Kingdom
Beautiful five-acre Rose garden with upwards of 15,000 individual roses and more than 5000 varieties set in the Hertfordshire countryside.
Headquarters of the Royal National Rose society, founded in 1876, the display gardens and International Trial grounds were established in the late 1960's after the society moved from its original offices in Westminster, London. Open to public visitors from June to July, the gardens provide a wonderfully fragrant environment to while away the hours amongst the blooms. Now matured from an extensive renovation in 2005 you will find Roses set amongst companion planting and one of only two Rose Seedling Trial grounds worldwide, trialling and awarding the next generation of Roses. The gardens also host an archive of historic Rose material dating back to the early 1800s and a wonderfully rich photographic history. The library is available to view by appointment.
