Written by Caroline Ellzey, 13, for her speech class at NCS: ----------------------------- The Runway Cafe First, you're thinking am I really going to eat in an airport terminal? But then, you walk in. In the newly renovated New Orleans Lakefront Airport, you first see what looks like a huge ballroom. With a huge ceiling and vast terrazzo floors, you feel as if you should be wearing a big Cinderella gown. But then you look to your left and see a small room with tables and chairs with a sign that says, Runway Cafe. Your first thought: Is this really what it's all hyped up to be? Then, you enter The Walnut Room. The Walnut Room is a huge room that used to be a dance hall. Usually, this room is used for special occasions and grand events (catered by Messina's), but having connections always helps. You are lead to a smaller room with a bar and an amazing view that you instantly fall in love with. The huge soundproof windows line the walls from ceiling to floor. You see one small airplane take off and have to get your camera out. With the soft clicks from the camera and the smooth hum of the plane’s engine, you feel calm in this serene room. At first glance, the breakfast menu is odd. It has all kinds of crazy combinations that any thirteen year old would never think to put together. But, the Eggs Benedict is to die for. With the combination of eggs, Canadian bacon, and hollandaise sauce, it is impossible to resist. Without even looking at the plate, you can smell the eggs with a mixture of hollandaise sauce a mile away. The waitress puts the plate in front of you and you see a mixture of colors. The fluffy yellow eggs and crisp bacon sandwiched in a whole grain toasted English muffin. The hollandaise sauce is drizzled on top with orange slices on the side. Picking up the smooth silver fork off of the white tablecloth, you dig in. An explosion of eggs and bacon fill your mouth and you can't help but to smile. It’s really is all it’s hyped up to be and more. Sadly, you eventually reach the last bite. You savor it and chew very slowly, trying to make it last longer. The waitress comes back and hands you the check. You put the money on the table and are escorted out of the room. You reach the huge main room of the terminal and finally push open the doors, knowing that you will return again.
