I now talk about my accident to miners and other industries, discussing how accidents can happen and how quickly they can escalate. My accident occurred on a machine that is commonly used in the underground industry - a machine you can become very complacent on. It's not just mining either - accidents can happen in any industry, thought complacency, repetitious work, stupidity, and workers not thinking. The emotional impact on yourself, family and friends; how everyday life can be taken away from you - family times, motorbikes, surfing, taking the kids fishing ... things that we all love doing. People don't realise the effect of an avoidable incident.
