Description

Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy is a tuition-free independent Jesuit school for underserved boys in grades six through eight. Grounded in the Jesuit mission of social justice, the Academy was founded in 1993 to address a critical need for quality education for children of diverse races, ethnicities and religions from at risk neighborhoods in Baltimore. Enrollment in the Academy is determined by a variety of factors including financial need, a demonstrated desire to succeed, and residence in Baltimore City. The Academy is an 11 month school year program with an extended school day -- 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Academy graduates attend competitive college preparatory high schools in Baltimore and the mid-Atlantic region. Our signature Graduate Support Program assists students with high school admissions and follows them through high school and into college with resources to guide their continued success. • 98% of Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy graduates receive a high school diploma, over double the rate of males in Baltimore City • 88% of Academy graduates matriculate at post-secondary educational institutions • 87% of the students at the Academy qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Meal program • Only 26 students are admitted each year to the incoming 6th grade class • Class sizes are small, ranging from 10-13 students per class Since the Academy's first eighth-grade graduating class in 1996, students have progressed to attend outstanding college preparatory high schools, including Gilman School, Loyola Blakefield, McDonogh School, Calvert Hall College High School, Boys' Latin School, Mt. St. Joseph's High School, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Baltimore City College, and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Episcopal High School (Alexandria, VA) and Georgetown Preparatory School. Academy graduates have attended many outstanding institutions, including Loyola University Maryland, Boston College, Morgan State University, Oberlin College, Georgetown University, Vanderbilt University, Morehouse College, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of Maryland (AIMS). AIMS is a voluntary organization of private, independent elementary and college preparatory schools in Maryland and the District of Columbia. All 115 member schools work together to improve education for their more than 45,000 students. Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy is a member of the NativityMiguel Network of Schools, a consortium of 64 schools serving more than 4,400 students in 27 states across the country.
