Sam Houston High School uses a small learning community model where students can strive academically and socially in classrooms geared for college preparation. Beginning this 2016-2017 school year, the campus restructured its model, to provide students with an opportunity to flourish in a college and career pathway of their choosing. This structure not only groups students together to master academic and practical skills; the pathways provide an added benefit of a small network of teachers focused on enhancing instruction to meet the needs of each individual student.

The Colt Choir includes students from 3rd through 5th Grade and perform numerous times throughout the year at the school and other venues.
Dr. Joe J. Bernal Middle School, the newest middle school in the Northside Independent School District, opened August 25, 2014.
