San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off and Festival We’re thrilled that there is so much excitement about the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-off and Festival. Please make plans to attend the 22nd annual event that will take place January 26-27, 2018 at our new location near the rodeo grounds, S.A.L.E. on Salado Creek (very near the AT&T Center). General Attendees: There will be SO many things to do and see at the 2018 event, including: LIVE music all day Friday and Saturday; heaps of vendors for shopping, washer pitching tournament; carnival rides and activities for kids, face painting, balloon animals, kids cook-off "Buckaroo Que", the Bad Boyz Rodeo, plus food trucks and plenty of adult beverages. We will also have one of the most entertaining awards ceremonies you’ve ever seen. Wear comfortable shoes and plan on having the best time of your life. At SABBQ, there are number of teams that welcome the general public and encourage participation. Not all teams do that, however, so ask before you enter. There will be plenty of areas for the general public. At most cook-offs, the general public does not get to taste samples. BBQ teams typically cook just enough meat to turn in for the competition and are very focused on what they are doing. Please be respectful of the cookers as they intensely focus on the competition. Parking: To make everything simple and easy AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN 2017, parking will be on the grounds of the AT&T Center. Twice the # of BBQ Shuttles will take attendees to and from the event. Teams (or anyone parking on the BBQ grounds) MUST HAVE a proper parking permit. No exceptions made. Vehicles without a proper parking permit will be towed at owners expense. Tickets: You can get tickets at the Rodeo/AT&T Ticket Office or on the day of the event at the gate. Online tickets sales stop during the week of the event. Children 12 and under are free. Military personnel with an ID are free (active and non-active). Tickets are only $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday. BBQ Teams: Please make plans to join us in 2018. Team registration for the 2018 event is scheduled to begin in October 2017. Check back here and online at www.SARodeo.com/BBQ for details. (In 2017, we sold out in 3 weeks with well over 300 teams!) BBQ Judges: Registration for BBQ judges should start in October/November 2017. Standby judges may be selected from people on the grounds near the Bolner's Fiesta Judging tent or the Smoke Pit Saloon on the SABBQ grounds. SABBQ The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off is a true championship cooking event. The IBCA sanctioned cook-off features 320 teams of the world's best cookers and pitmasters. Tens of thousands of visitors soak up live music, fun activities and great BBQ all weekend. There are over 300 volunteers on the Bar-B-Que Committee that work to host the event. Proceeds from this event benefit the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund. SABBQ is excited about the event taking place in January plus our fantastic location/home, S.A.L.E. on Salado Creek. This is located just down the road from the San Antonio rodeo grounds off Gembler Road and Creekview Drive. Thanks to a very generous land donation of about 67 acres, this will be the permanent home for our event. Texas Bar-B-Que Finale We are excited that the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off and Festival (SABBQ) will also host The Texas Bar-B-Que Finale. “The Finale” is the culmination of the Texas BBQ Points Chase, a year-long tracking of accumulated points by competition cookers. “The Finale”, will take place on Thursday and Friday, January 25-26, 2018 and is only open to 100 of the top BBQ teams who have qualified through the Texas BBQ Points Chase. The event will be IBCA judged and sanctioned. Texas BBQ Points Chase The 2017 calendar for the Texas BBQ Points Chase takes place from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017. Check out all the details at www.TexasBBQPointsChase.com. The 2018 Texas BBQ Points Chase wjill run October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018. Awards Dinner The Texas BBQ Points Chase is the Awards Dinner will honor the accomplishments of those Texas Pitmasters who earned the most Points overall and in each meat category. This is truly the highlight of everything we do in Texas competition BBQ as the Points Chase celebrates not only success, but consistency over time. The Awards Dinner will take place Thursday, January 25, 2018 on the grounds of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Tickets will be available soon. Payouts The payout for the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-Off and Festival will once again be $21,000 for the meats. PLUS... The two different jackpot entries will pay out a percentage of entry. Based on the average participation of entries, the 2018 projected payout for jackpots will be around $8000 to $9000. The payout for the Texas Bar-B-Que Finale is expected to be $10,000. That means that this coming January, cookers will have a San Antonio cook-off weekend with close to $40,000 in prize money.
