ABOUT Sanctum Noir: Gothique Tribal Fusion/ Danse du Ventre. Dance and body movement instruction specializing in dark fusion. Dance for cathartic nightlife dancing and body movement for personal exploration. Dive deep into your personal dance and explore your shadow side. Join our featured instructor for an hour of technique and concept instruction which will teach you moves you can take onto the club dance floor or into your private practice, as well as concepts you can use while delving into your beautiful and powerful dark side. Our classes are varied and unique each time with a different theme and modality. Our classes vary from traditional belly dance and tribal belly dance, to yoga incorporating dark fusion techniques and ritual experiences for exploring the shadow self. Dark wave subculture dance has its roots in a variety of dance styles and spiritual practices including danse du ventre (belly dance), tribal fusion, industrial dance, cabaret, rave dancing, yoga, meditation and ritual. Our classes have a large emphasis on belly dance moves, but incorporate a broader pallet and fusion of moves and practices. Sanctum Noir is a sanctuary for learning and exploration. Our experienced instructors focus on good form and safety while teaching body movement. Please ask questions and keep yourself safe while learning. If you feel physical pain please stop and ask for adaptive moves or alternatives. Classes are open to all genders, and are 21+. Because the class is taught in a bar, even if you are not drinking before/during/after class you must be 21 in order to take the class, and YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ID ON YOU. The class is taught in a no-pressure atmosphere (before club hours) 7:30-8:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month. A free open-dance club night 'Dark Tuesdays' ( https://www.facebook.com/DarkTuesdays2.0/ ) begins at about 9pm, so you are encouraged to stay after the class to incorporate what you have learned during class and interact with other dance enthusiasts. The best way to remember the moves you have learned and invested in is to use them! With a month in between classes, 'Dark Tuesdays' weekly dance event is a great opportunity to make sure you don't forget what you've learned and incorporate your moves into your personal dance style. 'Dark Tuesdays' is dedicated to dark wave music and underground free-form explorative dance. All levels are welcome: total beginners to advanced dancers. We are a welcoming crowd to all abilities, genders, and walks of life. Our instructor can walk you through techniques and offer advice for adaptations if you are limited or inhibited. Please honor the uniqueness in body/soul expression we all have to bring to the art of dance and dark fusion movement. Honor each other and yourself on the dance floor by offering space, understanding, patience and respect. You may wear what is comfortable and expressive to you, but we do have suggestions..... Because there is an open dance club event afterward you can wear your cub attire during class so that you are ready to do some open-dancing. HOWEVER, it is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that you can stretch and warm-up in (yoga pants, belly dance practice pants, ballet attire, large long loose skirt etc., corsets and heels are strongly discouraged for the class). Flat shoes or socks are encouraged. You may choose to bring your club attire and make-up to change into after the class, there is time after class to do this. You might also like to bring your yoga mat to stretch on before class. There is alcohol, soda and food served at the bar, not included with the price of the class. It is recommended that you place your orders 15-20 minutes before class starts. Please drink plenty of water. Outside food and beverage are prohibited, water can be provided at the bar. Please tip your bartender. Classes are $15 cash or credit, paid to the instructor before class starts unless other arrangements are made directly with the instructor.
