Educating Children, Supporting Families, Instilling Hope! The Sara Holbrook Community Center is a non-profit organization with two locations in the North End of Burlington, VT.
Since 1937, the Sara Holbrook Community Center (SHCC) has been providing a myriad of programs to meet the needs of low-income children and their families. Annually, 4,000 individuals including immigrant and refugee populations attend the Center's events and use the Center's programs including: preschool, after school care for elementary school students, elementary school-age summer camp, teen drop-in, youth adventure camp, year-round middle school enrichment classes, English classes for adults and children, and emergency food assistance. The Center is has two locations- the Old North End of Burlington, Vermont, which, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, constitutes the highest concentration of poverty in the state of Vermont; and the New North End of Burlington directly behind Hunt Middle School. Importantly, all the Center's programs are free or low-cost.
