Took one of the cats I am fostering to the vet for an infected nose. While leaving, a young man walked in with a tiny kitten whose legs seemed paralyzed. He was begging the vet tech to take it and she wouldn't because he could not stay and sign in, etc. He was on a break from work and was just trying to help the poor thing. Couldn't be responsible for it because he lived in an apartment and already has two cats. So I said I would help. This poor tiny creature weighs less than 2 pounds, with broken leg, and the most loving thing in the world. No crying, no yowling, nothing. The vet was moving and so didn't have xray equipment. They could do nothing. I sat there for thirty minutes loving the poor thing and calling anyone I could think of to try to get me into a vet. I knew the treatment was going to be expensive if at all possible. Having to decide to keep trying to get her to a vet or have her put down. So sad. Got her to another vet and found she has a broken femur, and two hernias. SEEMS SOMEONE MUST HAVE KICKED HER!!. They wrapped her leg and scheduled surgery for Sunday. In the meantime, I have nursed her, cleaned her, fed her, gave meds, etc and she is the most unbelievably sweet thing in the world. Found out last night that there may be more damage. The surgery was postponed until tonight. The doctor has warned me that she is so young and tiny that it will be very risky. So here I sit, wondering if I should proceed or let her go to kitty heaven......
If anyone can help with fostering / cat sitting three cats for three weeks starting this Friday, please let me know. A client of Save Our Pets Food Bank has found an apartment but won't be able to move in until Dec 1st. He has two older cats and one younger kitty. They are up to date on vaccinations and live indoors only. He has to stay in temporary housing until his move in and can't have animals there. This is definitely a three week foster / cat sitting situation. I would do it myself but just took in a mamma cat and four kittens that were rescued from a bad situation. Please share and pass this request. Thanks!!!
Paws in the Park was a great success!! We were so busy, didn't even have time to take any photos of all the different breeds of dogs. It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed being out with their pets. Thanks APRA for putting together such an awesome event!!
Getting ready for Paws in the Park. October 5th at Centennial Park . Thanks Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption for inviting us to attend!!
Plenty of dry cat food for anybody that needs it. Let me know!!
Another Friday without a pet food pick-up!!! Please call if your situation is urgent and we will try to help you as best we can. We do have some dry cat food and non-clumping litter.
From Andrea, Tim and Rachel at Pets For Life, Atlanta: Hey all! I just wanted to send out a request for volunteer help for Saturdays. If you have a couple of hours to spare, we would love to have your help with the following: · 10:30 am – 12:00 pm: Dog Training Classes (helping students check in, give out supplies, keep water bowls full, help students with their dogs with the lesson, etc.) · 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Cleaning/Admin Work (Cleaning our transport van, cleaning our transport crates, calling clients about spay/neuter appointments, etc.) · 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Outreach (going door-to-door in the neighborhood letting people know about our program and signing people up) There are also a few other volunteer roles that we can use help with on other days as well: Calling clients to let them know about our upcoming events, seeing if they want to spay/neuter, etc. This can be done from home on your own schedule. · Many clients do not have vehicles, and so transporting animals to their vet appointments is a huge part of our program. This would require you to pick up the pet from the client’s home and drop the pet off at the vet, and then returning them home when done. This can be done Mon – Sat, and usually requires pick up in the morning and returning home in the afternoon. If you are interested in helping in any of the above categories, please let me know. We appreciate all that you guys do for Pets For Life, our community, the people and their pets. You are definitely helping to make a difference! Best regards, Rachel, Tim, and Andrea Pets For Life Atlanta Team Andrea Peterson Coordinator, Pets For Life email@example.com The Humane Society of the United States 2100 L Street NW Washington, DC 20037 humanesociety.org
Morgan - the Siamese rescue cat that got out yesterday - returned home today!! All my trolling the neighborhood calling for her all day yesterday and today paid off - even though all my neighbors think I am truly a crazy cat lady. I don't care!! She's safe and sound in the cat house!!!!!
Trying to locate more sources for pet food. We are overwhelmed with calls for help and need more food - especially dog food!!
Save Our Pets is going mobile and expanding our outreach areas. Connections / suggestions for pet food sources are needed. Any help will be greatly appreciated by families and their pets!
Fostering a mamma cat and three kittens!! Have a friend fostering a kitten that was rescued from the middle of a busy street. Have another friend fostering a young dog found laying on the side of the street abandoned. What is going on ?????
Wondering if we are going to wait and have the first Mobile Pet Food Bank next Saturday the 12th. I think we may have to since this is a holiday weekend. Our food pick-up won't happen; they are closed for the 4th.
YaHoo - we are done moving out all our stuff from Ottley warehouse!! Although we are sad to leave, we are glad to get out of the heat and into our new storage location. Keep checking in for updates on our Mobile Pet Food Bank.
Almost finished clearing out the warehouse on Ottley. Anybody need non-clumping clay litter?? We have about 30 bags of it!!
Hey Everybody - Our food pick-up today was cancelled so we will not have any dry dog food to give out tomorrow!! We do have canned dog food and lots of dry cat food and clay litter. We are very sorry that our last food distribution at 150 Ottley will not be as plentiful as we had hoped. Thanks for all the great friendships we have made and please keep checking here for updates on where we will be having our mobile pet food distributions.
