The School has a long history of excellence in both research and teaching and we are committed to continuing that tradition. Our range of undergraduate degree programmes is wide and varied, and our flexible entry system allows those choosing to study at the University of Glasgow to benefit from the opportunity to explore a range of subjects in addition to Chemistry before specialisation. The School has a superb research environment with world leading research groups and facilities, a large and vibrant PhD programme with a wide variety of research topics. Our research covers all aspects of Chemistry, as well as the interfaces with biology, materials science and physics, and we are part of WestCHEM, the joint Research School in Chemistry with the University of Strathclyde.

The 11th annual WestCHEM Research Day takes place here this coming Monday. With a selection of talks from the students of The University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde as well as a plenary lecture from Edinburgh's Dr Paul Lusby, this event will provide a glimpse into some of Scotland's hottest chemistry research.
Congratulations to David Lennon and Richard Hartley, who have both been promoted to Professor. This is a great recognition of their contribution to excellence within the University. Well done!
With the new term starting, the School is delighted to welcome two new University Teachers in Organic Chemistry, Dr Ciorsdaidh Watts and Dr Patrick Thomson. In addition, Dr Smita Odedra will continue as University Teacher in Physical Chemistry.
