Description

Degree programs are available in the following courses of study: -Composition, Ethnomusicology, Musicology, and Theory -Dance -Music Education -Music Performance -Theatre -Visual and Digital Art In accordance with the mission of the University, the School of Music, Theatre and Dance seeks to enable students to understand and embrace the artistic expression of all cultures, empowering them to enrich the human experience for themselves and others. Acknowledging the enduring traditions of excellence in each discipline, the School strives to: -Teach the imaginative, critical, aesthetic, and technical skills essential to the creative process, scholarly inquiry, and professional engagement in the continually evolving fields of music, theatre and dance. -Promote discovery and foster inclusive learning that enriches the understanding of human diversity and global issues as they relate to the performing arts. - Provide our undergraduate students with comprehensive curricula appropriate to the various degree programs offered by the School of Music, Theatre and Dance. - Equip our graduate students to become specialists and leaders in their fields through advanced study and training. -Present public performances and provide artistic resources, education and outreach to the community and the state of North Carolina. The requirements for entrance and graduation as set forth in this Bulletin are in accordance with the published regulations of those accrediting agencies. In addition, the School of Music, Theatre and Dance is the sole representative of the State of North Carolina to the National Association of Music Executives in State Universities. The School of Music, Theatre and Dance offers a variety of degree programs within the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, and the Bachelor of Music degrees. Prospective music majors and minors must audition for acceptance into music degrees and for approval of the major or principal performance area. Auditions are similarly required for admission into all degrees within the Department of Dance and for the B.F.A. degree in the Department of Theatre. For specific information concerning auditions and admissions procedures contact the Dance, Theatre, or Music Departments.
