<p><b>Scotiabank Theatre</b> is a major <a href="/pages/w/106030949435368">movie theatre</a> at the RioCan Hall in the <a href="/pages/w/104053816296702">Entertainment District</a> in <a href="/pages/w/107963539231295">downtown Toronto</a> at <a href="/pages/w/792523717471749">Richmond</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Street_" class="wikipedia">John Street</a> owned by <a href="/pages/w/108105252550123">Cineplex Entertainment</a> and opened in 1999.</p><h2>Name</h2><p>The flagship theatre was originally called Paramount Theatre, after then owner <a href="/pages/w/106288079410704">Famous Players</a>' parent company <a href="/pages/w/112691388743533">Viacom</a>, which also owned <a href="/pages/w/108327129189603">Paramount Pictures</a>. In 2005, after Viacom sold the Famous Players chain to Cineplex, the theatre was renamed to Scotiabank Theatre, after the Canadian bank <a href="/pages/w/112532815428647">Scotiabank</a>.</p><h2>History</h2><p>The theatre opened with 14 screens and 4500 seats, and Toronto's first 3-D <a href="/pages/w/108289445859350">IMAX</a> screen. The theatre is a part of the RioCan Hall (originally Festival Hall), which also contains a <a href="/pages/w/130682850358540">Milestones Grill and Bar</a>, and formerly a flagship <a href="/pages/w/115816295098491">Chapters</a> store. It also contains a <a href="/pages/w/103121449728374">Marshalls</a>, where it was a large nightclub called Circa before that, and a <a href="/pages/w/112291582121200">Playdium</a> originally.
