<p><b>Sheldon High School</b> is a 9th-12th grade college-preparatory high school located in <a href="/pages/w/112775735402158">Sacramento County, California</a>, next to the city limits of <a href="/pages/w/113240368686567">Elk Grove, California</a>. The school was established in 1997 as part of the <a href="/pages/w/108056952555324">Elk Grove Unified School District</a>.</p><h2>History</h2><p>The name is from the town of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon%2C_California" class="wikipedia">Sheldon</a> on Grant Line Road, active in gold activity of the 1850s on the <a href="/pages/w/138016099551917">Cosumnes River</a>. Jared Dixon Sheldon, for whom the town was named, was an adventurer, entrepreneur, pioneer, and farmer of the Cosumnes River - Sloughhouse area. In 1844, Sheldon obtained the <a href="/pages/w/143370909074228">Rancho Omochumnes</a> <a href="/pages/w/105537422812031">Mexican land grant</a>.
