Shemirah takes place over the course of one night as 12-year old Roisin sits guard over the body of her grandfather Pop. As the night unfolds, Roisin slips between real time and memory, and the audience is transported to 1960s Jewish Dublin. Based loosely on the memoir Home Fires by Shivaun Woolfson, Shemirah is, at its core, the story of a young girl straining under the weight of competing agendas who, in the end, forges her own path, transcending her turbulent world through the gift of magic, of story and of redemption bequeathed by her beloved Pop. The man who was blind, she realizes, was the one who saw it all.
