We were formed by a group of Gay & Lesbian Tasmanians who all grew up here. We believe that we have a fantastic and diverse culture that needs embracing. We believe in friendship strengthening the bonds of a proud people and we believe in fun. In the future we would like to help showcase what a magnificent community we are a part of by allowing avenues for artists of all types to show off their talents because, hey, everyone's good at something right? let's see it! We'd also love to assist in providing extravagant events in which to attend because, hey, we're here right? And we're really quite fabulous! Everyone should have easy access to tips about Health & Safety and we plan to do just that on this very website. However we need to make certain that the information we publish here is the right information and if we don't have it, provide a few alternatives that do. We're just being extra thorough with this one. Please contact us if you have any queries or input. We are still very new and shiny. We're doing our best to let you know what's happening when so if you have any events you would like to get going, we'll help in any way we can. The Shield website is a community website and is yours to use. We've already added some features so that you can Chat with one another, have your say on a Public Forum and leave Private Messages. Many more features. Please explore. A little information about us: Shield is a non funded community non-profit Organization based in Tasmania, Australia. A new resource for the Gay & Lesbian Community providing a list of gay friendly venues and events. Shield was formed to help prevent Gay & Lesbian Tasmanians from becoming victims of violence and hate crimes by providing the community with tips and information about safely enjoying your time in Tasmania. Shield will be concentrating on areas within Tasmania that are lacking in both gay venues and events and hopefully help provide these services. Shield provides a public Forum for its users to meet and share stories and experiences with other Gay & Lesbian Tasmanians. Shield staff consists of Bar Managers, Police, Teachers, Students & many more of all ages and genders. Shield welcomes any input or suggestions you may have.
