Description

SUMMER PROGRAMS: Church youth groups from all over the western states travel to one of the summer sites for an unforgettable week of serving, learning, worship and fellowship. We do repair work on primarily homes in the communities we serve. The type of work ranges from roofing and building wheelchair ramps to drywall repairs and painting. No construction experience is needed, but you’ll be amazed at all of the work that our youth teams complete. Learn more: http://sierraserviceproject.org/summer_program.html

General Info

SSP NICARAGUA: Sierra Service Project has ten years of experience sending teams of youth and young adults to learn and serve with the poor in Central America. We partner with Seeds of Learning, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve educational opportunities for the poor in Nicaragua. Seeds of Learning has a year-round presence in two rural regions near the capital of Managua. Volunteer teams work alongside community members on school improvement and construction projects. Importantly, a portion of the volunteer fee supports Seeds of Learning’s scholarship and teacher training programs. Over the years we have added new locations and planned a variety of service projects for youth to be involved in their communities – every weekend is unique! From full group service projects planting trees in South LA, and harvesting fruit for the local food bank, to more traditional SSP repair work, each session has its own flavor. These sessions range from long weekends to six-night programs. Common to all sessions are combining challenging community service work with a series of visits, tours and guest speakers aimed to give participants real insight into the dynamic communities where they are serving. Our staff live and work together for nine and a half intense weeks, running all aspects of six weeks of summer service for over three hundred youth. Although each position has unique responsibilities, all staff members share in the responsibility for safeguarding the health and safety of all youth. In addition, all staff participate in and contribute to all aspects of each week's spiritual program, and are expected to model the Christian spirit of love and service at all times. Learn more: http://sierraserviceproject.org/staff.html STAFF-IN-TRAINING: SSP's Staff-In-Training (SIT) program provides potential staff members with a preview of the life of an SSP summer staff member. Each SIT spends one week at an SSP site rotating through the various staff positions. Individuals who participate in our SIT program do so voluntarily without pay and are responsible for getting themselves to and from their assigned site. The California State Firefighters' Association
1232 Q St Sacramento , CA 95811 United States

CSFA is dedicated to ensuring our members a strong and united voice in the evolution of of the fire service through unity in leadership, political action, education, training and quality member services. The California State Firefighters' Association began in 1922, when a small group of firefighters met in Fresno to discuss the state of the fire service in California. After some discussion, it was decided that the very best way to serve the public and firefighters was to form an organization to work towards enacting laws to protect the public from fire and to improve working conditions for firefighters. As a result of that first conference, the California State Firefighters' Association, Inc. was born. From this initial gathering, a membership of more than 24,000 has grown. Members include paid, volunteer, military and industrial firefighters, members of the California Department of Forestry, United States Forest Disaster Office, Office of Emergency Services (Fire and Rescue Division), State Fire Marshal's Office, State Fire Service and Training Program and California state-employed firefighters. Time has proven that a consolidated effort of California's fire service through CSFA has helped all its branches.
