Description

Established in 1978, Sitter School of Dance is one of Saskatchewan’s finest dance schools. It provides dance training for beginners through to professionals, with qualified teachers in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary. The School’s success is in the programs designed for all children, those who wish to dance for fun, and for those who wish to train in an Intensive Program. Sitter School of Dance is committed to excellence in dance training. Teachers are constantly training in all elements of dance from the traditional movements of ballet to the latest movements in jazz and tap. A dress code exist for dance classes, dancewear is available from local shops. Students are required to wear a uniform of navy blue, pink or black – studio –crested bodysuits are available at the studio but not compulsory. Boys and girls in Saskatoon can take part in after school and weekend dance classes. Children take one, two or three classes a week depending on age and level of training from September to June. Children are assessed during the first month to ensure interest and suitability of class placement. Classes are limited in size and emphasis is on musicality and enjoyment with concern for structure and technique evolving over time. For those students wishing to take exams, graded examinations in ballet are awarded by the Royal Academy of Dance and in tap and jazz by the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. For those students not wishing to take exams, weekly classes are available. These classes are designed to challenge and develop young dancers with emphasis put on dancing for fun. The studio offers competitive training in dance; this again is optional and is largely decided by the studio staff. Should your child be chosen, you the parents would be contacted. Your decision is the final commitment. The studio has a high standard of competitive team work and works continuously to challenge the dancers and teachers to maintain its excellence. Many awards in the form of trophies and scholarships are won by the students on a yearly basis. All students participate in the annual dance extravaganza held at TCU Place in June; it is truly the highlight of the dance year where every child shows his or her talents. The school is located at 139 & 191 LaRonge Road with three fully equipped studios custom built for dance, along with waiting rooms in both buildings. Office and secretary are located in the main building, lower level. TINY TOTS – AGES 3 & 4 YEARS Class consists of basic ballet, tap (optional), tumbling exercises, nursery rhyme, song and dance. This class is specially designed for the enjoyment of children this age. NON EXAM BALLET, TAP AND JAZZ: Classes are taught following the same guidelines as exam students without the emphasis on the exam. These classes are for the enjoyment of dance while still learning good dance technique. BODY CONDITIONING & JUMP & TURN: These classes are designed to develop flexibility and strength, which are essential to the progress of any dancer. Students will also be introduced to a variety of turns and jumps and be given the chance to work on perfecting the correct technique, coordination, proper placement and execution of these elements. These classes are invaluable to the progress of the children. EXAMINATION CLASSES: R.A.D. Ballet – Graded & Vocational Syllabi Students follow set curriculum set by the Royal Academy of Dance. The work in this syllabus has been arranged to meet the needs of all children. It is intended as a sound preparation for those who will progress to serious ballet training. Royal Academy of Dance examinations are internationally recognized. C.D.T.A. Tap and Jazz – Children and Majors Students follow a set curriculum set by the Canadian Dance Teachers Association; the work in this syllabus encourages the proper use of co-ordination with emphasis on technique and musicality. Examinations in this syllabus are nationally recognized. The following styles are also taught competitively and/or recreationally Hip Hop Lyrical Contemporary All students, non exam and exam, at Sitter School of Dance are taught with the importance of correct placing of the body, legs and feet and co-ordination of the head and arms.
