Sky Castle Gastro Lounge located in Twenty-Nine 7 building in the heart of Lakeview, features a Southern progressive menu paired with inventive cocktails.
Back in 1955, when rock-n-roll was brand new, the Magic City tuned to WSGN to hear the revolution. Birmingham's Dirst Top 40 Station had a remote studio on 7th Avenue South, at the heart of the Lakeview District. Deejays took live requests from their "sky castle," a glass-walled booth over Ed Salem’s Drive-In. Teenagers cruised up, ordered burgers from carhops on roller skates, and stayed to watch DJs spin their favorite hits. 60 years later, a new Sky Castle sits in the same spot, once again ushering in something entirely new. Jeff, Chris and Jason Bajalieh, brothers well-known in Birmingham restaurant circles for their popular "Sol's" and "Slice" concepts, have partnered with renowned local Chef Haller Magee to create a high energy spot that promises to become a neighborhood favorite. The interior is a vibrant space, mixing sleek tables and comfortable couches throughout an open concept, all encouraging patrons to linger. Banquettes are piped similar to the 1950s Chevy seat, a subtle nod to the dawn of rock-n-roll and Birmingham’s legacy. Inventive cocktails are served from an ample bar. Televisions line the walls, perfect for watching sporting events, but the latest technology ensures their sound will not interrupt conversation. Sky Castle’s lounge is a comfortable place to pass an evening with friends over a dynamic dinner and drinks. If you're looking for a precedent, you won't find one here, Southern progressive food is influenced by a globe-trotting chef. Nostalgia meets modern. Comfort food melds with contemporary cuisine. Avant-garde goes down just as smoothly as the craft cocktails. In short, Sky Castle gives a nod to the past, while shaping the future.
