The perfect uniform for reading, writing, painting and pondering.
Sleepy Jones is a new collection of not-quite-ready-to-wear created by Andy Spade and the design studio Partners & Spade. When we looked at the people we admire – artists, writers, designers, musicians – they didn’t work and create in suits and ties, selvage denim, yoga gear or any other fashion fetish. They wore what was comfortable, and sometimes little at all. Plimpton was known to roam the Paris Review office in boxers. Picasso churned out masterpieces in little more than shorts and a robe. They weren’t projecting themselves as businessmen or union workers. They were being their authentic, comfortable selves – and the comfort of being yourself is true style. As clothing has evolved, pajamas and underwear have been left behind as unstylish and unflattering relics. We asked, Why do we have to wear boring basics or something that doesn’t fit when we just want to be comfortable? Sleepy Jones grew out of the idea to make sleepwear and underwear in classic fabrics with a comfortable fit and timeless style. A stylish escape. Sleepy Jones is designed for the quiet moments when we slow down and reconnect. Reading the newspaper in bed, building castles of cardboard and sheets with your children, ordering late afternoon room service. We are so connected throughout the day that the greatest luxury isn’t material. It’s the time when we are unplugged and being ourselves. Lounging is a luxury and that is why we created Sleepy Jones.
