Thank you for your actions tonight. Everyone!!! THANK YOU - Regardless of wether you stayed or left - loved or hated it - love me or hated me - YOU GAVE - you made a difference and you served wonderful purposes beyond what you could imagine....A boot load of food for Rosie's - and over $500 for Lifeline suicide prevent - How is that anything short of awesome from about 30 people!! Clearly some gave till it hurt :) on behalf of those whom will receive something that matters - as a result of your generosity - Thank you xxx
Today is all about Raising Awareness, Raising Money, AND RISING UP!! Putting together all the elements for tomorrow nights' event with the help of some selfless women who were quick to volunteer their time & support. Never - have I appreciated more than I do today - the life long lessons, appreciations, and understandings about, culture, community, collective, collaboration, and the joy of working with others on something concerned about...that cares about something other than our 'individual selves' ... all of which were instilled as a part of the extended family of rebels, rejects, and revolutionaries that studied together at Griffith Uni during the rein Dr Mike (Foz) - "Ya can't fake this stuff" - xxx
YIPPPPEEEEEE - have internets on the laptop now - thanks to a "dongle"....yes!! this is a real device!!! Was thinking today that if there is anyone who would like to support Rosie's and Lifeline but can't make the event - if you are able to do a "whip round" at work or school or playgroup and collect any donations of non perishables or $$ - Post on this event page and message or call me and I will arrange collection - and I will be sure to acknowledge you and your group on the night. A BIG HUG and lots of love to everyone who has jumped on board and supported this event with such enthusiasm and generosity - on behalf of those whose lives you will be making a difference - THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! one of the MANY reasons I am a loud and proud Gold Coaster to my very core - YOU GUYS - are the REAL "Heart & Soul" of the Gold Coast!!! xxxxxx
Packing the car for the big Kingscliff adventure - I am more than a little chuffed by just how much I managed to squeeze [very neatly] into the black bubble!! SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!
Last thing before a couple of hours sleep - huge love and appreciation to my mate and great support [free labourer] Richelle Spence - she has kept all things logistical, and responsible, and logical, and organisational..particularly those that are technical!! happening -as required behind the scenes. Like anyone who as ever worked on a community based project - no pay, no sleep, no thanks, too much dahl and not enough caffine...She aint afraid of the hard graft and just gets S*%T done and does it with one of those [lets face it - annoying] blissed out stupid grins; a few "yeah yeahs" and lots of laughs [at my expense] to keep things real. Thanks Richy Funk for walking not talking when it mattered. xx
WOW - have just really stopped...slowed down and become fully present for the first time today...and all I feel is overwhelmed with gratitude...I have to admit I was a facebook hater - and resisted till the very end....but as I conclude my inaugural week of world wide web wilderness webfest....I can say it has been wonderfilled!!! I have been able to remember and rejoice in my roots and reminded of what I consider family to mean... but more importantly who mine really are...not the one I was born into - the one that took me in and became the fabric that fits like a skin - woven together by the many memories within my often muddled mind...and every molecule of my being!! You know who you are out there in cyberspace :) You have allowed me to meet and love your kids, your husbands, girlfriends, mum, dads, brothers, wives...neighbours, friends and SOULS!! Despite my loathing of "boxes" I have spent the majority of the last 13 years inside two...one black...one white...one where we were barefoot most of the time and so alive...the other where we wouldn't be caught dead! without our covered in shoes!! Different but the same...connected by creative spirit...People often ask if I regret not having kids, or if I wish I were closer to my family...I know I sound like every overused cliche but you know I am not linguistically lazy - YOU ARE MY FAMILY...and I have more kids than Mother Hubbard (definitely more shoes!!)...I have truly loved - LOVED!!! Seeing what everyone has been doing and getting a sense of what incredibly beautiful human beings you are - you are ALL inspiring to me...and I am so humbled to have been "friended", "liked" , "shared", "posted" - don't think I've been poked? Thank you ALL so very much from the bottom of my heart...seems I didn't need the Opus to feel like Mr Holland afterall...and now I also feel like cheesecake :) YOU'RE TOPS!!! xx
Big thanks to the lovely ladies at the Bead-Shed-Pty-Ltd at Carrara markets for helping me out today with a little something for next Saturday and for their unsolicited $$ donation - so I have raised the funds!!!! YAY!! Love meeting awesome women like that!! Xxx and many thanks to everyone who is sharing and liking the page - who woulda thought I would be liking facebook!!!
UPDATE!! As Anti-Poverty Week starts 12th October - For anyone who would prefer to donate something other than cash or anyone feeling like they'd like to "do More" I am putting it out there for anyone coming to the fundraiser on the 11th - to take a look at Rosies - Friend on the Streets facebook page...and consider bringing along an item or items listed on the "what can I donate" section. Help lighten the load for our friends on the street. COLLABORATE WITH ME IN CO CREATING SOMETHING THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!! Some generous souls have donated gifts for door prizes and giveaways - so get on board - no matter how small - every single cent - every item - will COLLECTIVELY CREATE something significant!!
Am very excited that I can now officially announce that the charity I am raising funds for is Lifeline: Suicide Prevention Initiatives. For anyone who may have been concerned - the event has been approved/sanctioned as a fundraiser with ALL monies collected are being donated to Lifeline. The fabulous staff at the Helensvale Cultural Centre arranged a venue hire fee that was affordable for me to cover personally and ensure there will be no costs AT ALL deducted from whatever we manage to collect. Some wise women advised me that advertising as a FREE event lessened the value etc in regards to "marketing" - so PLEASE NOTE: admission to the event Kylie's Coming Out for Charity: Psychic not Psychotic IS BY DONATION - gold coins are great but folding notes ARE FABULOUS!!!
Had the privilege of meeting Gold Coast Benji - WOW!! That little guy is a massive ball of love compassion and awesomeness!! His fundraising efforts are phenomenal...HUGE fan of his work for Indigenous groups. And WHAT a jewellery collection that funky dude has!!! Beads gifted from the Dalai Lama, Mother Teressa...some serious bling!! Get behind anything this guy is supporting.
