Description
SMLCS is a not for profit, faith based provider. Our preschool and child care center is one of the largest Lutheran preschools in the area. SMLCS was founded in 1952 as a ministry of South Miami Lutheran Church for the purpose of serving its members and the community with a quality early childhood experience. In response to the increased need for service, the inclusion of a comprehensive child care program was included in 1980.South Miami Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and as such shares the historic Lutheran concern for education. Our school is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association, Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, approved by the Early Learning Coalition as a School Readiness Provider, and recognized by Quality Counts, The Children's Trust, the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade Quality Rating System as a 4.5 star preschool.

General Info
We have a five year program that will prepare your child for kindergarten. We avoid stress and highly structured classrooms. We do not teach reading, but rather reading readiness skills. We teach children to see relationships between himself/herself and things in his/her environment. The Creative Curriculum is SMLCS curriculum of choice. Creative curriculum is built on the philosophy that young children learn best by doing. It is build upon theories of development in young children, that all children learn through active exploration of their environment and therefore the environment plays a critical role in learning. The goal of The Creative Curriculum is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners by actively exploring the environment. The curriculum also helps the teacher to take a closer look at each child's unique abilities, interests and needs. Our teachers are qualified and well educated professionals. Some have a two-year degree and others have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and/or child development. Our child care practitioners are licensed by the state of Florida through the Department of Children and Family Services (DCF). South Miami Lutheran Church School staff members are trained by the Red Cross in pediatric first aid and CPR.Company Rating
