* Special Olympics Hamilton County of Ohio (SOHC) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization accredited by Special Olympics Inc. — one of 52 accredited entities operating in the United States. * SOHC is a local and an area chapter, under the division of Special Olympics Ohio. It is totally dependent on donations, personal contributions and corporate sponsorship from the local community. SOHC is not subsidized by Special Olympics Ohio or International Special Olympics for its local programs, nor is it affiliated with United Way. * SOHC ensures the highest possible percentage of donations goes directly to programs offered to Special Olympics athletes. Volunteers fill typical staff roles to keep administration costs at a minimum. * SOHC offers 24 different year-round athletic and recreational programs within Hamilton County. * SOHC relies on a staff of three and nearly 600 community volunteers to assist with programs and administrative duties. * An Advisory Board governs SOHC. * SOHC serves over 1,800 athletes with developmental and mental disabilities, ranging in age from eight to eighty. * Special Olympics athletes receive a minimum of eight weeks of training from volunteer coaches in their chosen sport(s) prior to competitions. * There are over 100 certified Special Olympics coaches currently participating in SOHC.

Good luck to all the swimmers who are participating in the SOHC Aquatics Meet. Thank you M.E. Lyons YMCA for hosting the event. Registration begins at 1:00 p.m. and the Parade of Athletes start at 1:30 p.m. We would also like to welcome the swimmers from Clermont Co., Butler Co., Warren Co., Lakota, Middletown City and Darke County Special Olympics. Special Olympics Hamilton County/Harrison Network/Whitewater Crossing Christian Church are partnering together again to form a Recreational Program for individuals with SPECIAL NEEDS for the summer. We have plenty of volunteers to run the program, now we need the athletes to attend the program! This will be a 3 week summer program. It will be Tues., July 8 – 15 – 22 at Whitewater Crossing Christian Church (5771 SR 128, Cleves, OH). Each week there will be fun activities such as: kickball, corn hole, wiffle ball, parachute games – just to name a few. The program will be outside. In case of rain we will go inside. So come on out rain or shine! There will be 2 sessions: (If we do not get enough for 2 sessions, we will take down to one – we will notify you on Tues. morning if we are going to 1 session). Session 1 -- 8 – 15 yr. olds -- 6:00 – 6:50 p.m. Session 2 -- 16 & older – 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. If you are interested in this program, PLEASE call - 271-2606 or e-mail- smithj@zoomtown.com – we want to see how many we have in order to make a decision if it should be 1 or 2 sessions.
