Brighton Dome & Resident present SPECTRUM; a live music scheme that cultivates, develops and showcases the city’s burgeoning musical talent.

Brighton Dome presents SPECTRUM in association with Resident Brighton Dome project SPECTRUM cultivates and supports the vibrant music scene of Brighton & Hove in partnership with Resident. Our city is brimming with musical talent of all genres and what better way to celebrate that than in our Studio Theatre, offering the perfect platform for acts to be seen and heard. Resident is more than just a record shop, and as the hub for Brighton’s music scene, we share the same dedication and enthusiasm for the music in and of our city. Since 2004 Resident has been the independent heart of a music-buying and gig-going community in Brighton and beyond, picking up awards and accolades along the way. It prides itself on a welcoming atmosphere whilst espousing a wide and impeccable range of music. As such we cannot think of better partners in our mission to support, nurture and champion the local scene. Yep, we are pretty excited about this project. As well as hosting a diverse ‘spectrum’ of bands each month, there’s also a ‘spectrum’ of stimulating activity within this work (see what we did there!). This is what we are doing: SPECTRUM Live sees regular monthly gigs at Brighton Dome Studio Theatre showcasing the city’s very best musicians and bands. Whether in a seated cabaret style for melodic folk or a standing gig with visuals for something brilliantly noisy, every month promises something different and pays homage to the wealth of talent on offer across the city. SPECTRUM Seminars – These sessions give an opportunity for local musicians to come and learn more about the industry as a whole, whether it be PRS, legal matters or press and marketing. Seminars are always free to attend and are an amazing way to pick up new knowledge and advice from those who know. SPECTRUM Site & Sound – You may have seen the unbelievably good video of Luo on the Brighton Dome Concert Hall stage or the gentle loveliness of Kate Berney in our beautifully tiled corridors. Site & Sound offers local musicians and film makers the opportunity to collaborate and explore our incredible grade 1 listed venues to create a live artefact for their portfolios. SPECTRUM Residencies – This strand of the project sees us working with local artists who are interested in developing their live act. This might be through collaboration with other artists to create something cross-art and sensational or perhaps to add a new layer to their music with string ensembles or electronic elements – a chance to get creative! Chosen artists would have time and space at Brighton Youth Centre to develop ideas, a day in our Studio Theatre with two technicians to try things out and the chance to headline one of the shows with their new work. Whilst at Brighton Youth Centre artists will engage in an exchange with younger musicians in the city through developing a workshop, a scratch night or a jam session.
