We are a volunteer run, foster based, non profit rescue that runs a low cost vaccination, spay/neuter, and food program for First Nations communities. www.spiritofhoperescue.ca
SOHR was started in January of 2012 by Director Cathie Mieyette as a promise to herself that if she was to survive what was then a life saving stem cell transplant, she would start a rescue to assist First Nations communities with the overpopulation of dogs. Cathie is a four time cancer survivor. Since 2012, Cathie and her team at SOHR has rescued more than 2000 dogs. To reduce the load (on Dog Rescues) of rescuing and re-homing the burgeoning population of homeless and feral dogs, by working with Guardians and civil authorities in the spaying and neutering of free-ranging animals. To eliminate the suffering of animals in non-spayed/non-neutered animal communities.
