St. Francis Hospice strives to enhance the quality of life for patients and their family members, and to make each day together a memorable experience. * Parents today may outlive their children because of the obesity epidemic. St. Francis Healthy Lifestyles Program (HeLP) is trying to change this by teaching nutrition and diabetes in Hawaii’s elementary schools. * One in four individuals in Hawaii will be age 60 and older by 2020. St. Francis recognizes this growing need and offers a range of services for older adults to maintain their dignity and independence. * Franciscan Vistas Ewa features 149 affordable senior rental units and a community center offering health, recreation and social activities for residents. * St. Francis Health Services for Senior Citizens provides bathing and grooming services for elderly clients in their homes. * Franciscan Adult Day Center provides assistance with activities of daily living and personal care for frail elderly who need supervised care while caregivers are at work. * Waianae is one of the most impoverished areas in Hawaii. Our Lady of Kea’au provides hot meals every week to homeless individuals living on the Waianae coast. * Using telehealth systems to monitor the health of patients means faster response times. St. Francis Home Care Services identifies signs and symptoms early to allow medical intervention and reduce the need for emergency room visits and hospital stays. * When a serious illness is diagnosed or a person’s condition becomes worse, pain and symptom control becomes very important. St. Francis Palliative Care helps patients (many are still receiving curative treatments) and their loved ones to better understand their illness and care options.
