St. Barbara’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral is celebrating their feast of their patron saint St. Barbara this Wednesday Vigil at 6pm and Thursday morning December 17th at 10am with Divine Liturgy and the Holy relics of St. Barbara will be there for all to venerate.
Our Pre-Christmas cleanup and polishing of our Holy Vessels and church furniture will take place this Friday December 18th from 8:30-11:30am and we desperately need volunteers to help.
Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto (Canada) Metropolis Mission Board “Go ye and make disciples of all nations...” “I was hungry and you fed me...” The Mission Board of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto (Canada), in cooperation with the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC), will send a Mission Team to Nueva Concepcion, Guatemala, in June 2016. The objectives of this trip are to provide a Church school program for two communities in southwest Guatemala and to introduce basic lessons of the Orthodox Faith to youth who are eager to learn more about their faith. Dates: June 15-June 28, 2016 Cost: $1,175.00 USD + airfare (The cost includes room and board, local transportation, orientation costs, ministry expenses, excursion and materials.) Applicants with a working knowledge of Spanish are encouraged to apply, but knowledge of Spanish is not required. Α special request is made for applicants with experience working with youth, altar servers, and those knowledgeable in Church music. Over the last two decades, a large number of Guatemalan communities began a spiritual journey that has brought them to Orthodoxy. You and parishioners of your churches are invited to celebrate with us the feast of Saint Great Martyr Barbara, the patron saint of our Cathedral. The beginning of the Divine Hierarchal Liturgy is on Thursday, December 17, at 10:00 a.m. The liturgy will be presided by His Grace Bishop of Kashira Job, and will be followed by lunch. Sunday School will resume on Sunday November 29th 10:30-11:15 am. Our new Sunday School teacher is Maria Rempel. She has been in Edmonton a few years and has taught Sunday school previously in Toronto and is excited to teach our children here at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church of Edmonton. Sunday school will be taught every second Sunday for now due to our Sunday School teacher's busy schedule.
