The primary purpose of a Catholic school is to pass on the Catholic Faith…to act as an instrument for initiating and/or deepening a student’s relationship with Jesus and forming him or her for a life of Christian discipleship. This primary purpose is to inform, permeate and unit all the other possible goals of a Catholic school. (Office of Evangelization and Catechesis) St. John the Baptist School tries to immerse the students in the Catholic traditions, rich cultures of our faith, and scriptural teachings, infused in every minute of every day. The teachers utilize “Learning in a Faith-filled Environment” (L.I.F.E.) based on Catholic social teaching and lifelong guidelines by Susan Kovaik. The students participate in the morning announcements highlighting “The Saint of the Day”, a weekly Bible quote, and prayer. The students are exposed to and participate in a variety of different forms of prayer within the classroom and school. We have an all school Mass on Friday mornings starting at 8:30 a.m.; all are welcome and encouraged to attend. St. John’s School believes that the parents are the primary educators of their children and we are here to support them in their efforts in the spiritual and educational growth of their child/children. St. John’s is here to provide a Christian environment where children have the opportunity to develop a positive self-concept. The children will develop an awareness of God’s loving care for us. The curriculum is designed to promote creative development while addressing each child’s cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. St. John’s intends to foster social experiences in which children discover pleasure from giving and receiving while learning to recognize and respect the feelings of others. The curriculum will prepare them for further social interaction through a variety of service projects that benefit the local community and beyond. Key Goals: (Catholic Schools Summit) 1.Every family that wants a Catholic school education has access to it. 2.Students, graduates, and families are active in the faith life of their parish/faith community. 3.The school is viable and healthy as evidenced by quality religious and academic programs, sound finances, and sustains enrollment. 4.Collaboration with the local parish, the diocese, and other schools to be innovative, and efficient. 5.Provide opportunities for all school stakeholders to help plan for the future. To have a long range plan locally and collaboratively with the Diocese.
