Description

The mission of St. Joseph Catholic School is to foster the spiritual growth and academic life of its students and faculty and to teach children, with the cooperation of parents, the Catholic faith. Your child is accepted, cherished, and challenged as a unique individual. As a Catholic School, it is our belief that there must be an integration of our faith in our total school curriculum. We attempt to provide an atmosphere where the Gospel values are instilled, Christian attitudes are developed, academic excellence is fostered, and discipline is stressed. We strive on all accounts to be a school where Christ is loved, excellence is expected, character counts, and traditions thrive. We provide our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to make informed decisions, to follow Christ’s example of service to others, and to live meaningful and productive lives. We exist to complement the home in educating the whole child: spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically. Prayer, participation in liturgy, and the reception of the sacraments instill an awareness of the presence of the Living God in our community. A sequential religion curriculum incorporates all elements of the Catholic faith and addresses special problems in an evolving society. We learn and live in the light of faith by integrating religious doctrine, moral values, and service to others with academic knowledge. By maintaining high expectations for all students, we encourage them to work to their potentials and to develop their intellectual curiosity. We provide a curriculum which fosters an appreciation of the value of study and instills an enthusiasm for lifelong learning. Through the application of various teaching strategies and programs we accommodate individual differences and needs. We encourage academic self-discipline, critical thinking skills, independent reasoning, and creative expression in order to prepare students to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s world. We provide an atmosphere of acceptance, caring and encouragement so that students develop self-confidence and a realization of their gifts and talents. Students are made aware of the consequences of their choices and are led toward acceptance of personal responsibility. Moral development is nurtured through an attitude of mutual respect and acceptance of self and others. We encourage our students to become contributing and respectful members of our diverse, multicultural society. We provide opportunities to express and appreciate varied ethnic, religious, and cultural values and customs. Students interact with their classmates, with other students in the school, and within the larger community through academic and service projects. Written and spoken communication skills are emphasized across the curriculum. We involve the students in activities that will enhance physical fitness, development, and coordination. Good sportsmanship and fair play are fostered through participation in various sports that emphasize cooperation, responsibility, leadership, and a positive competitive spirit. We teach respect for the human body and promote good personal health habits. To ensure student safety, we provide and practice emergency preparedness procedures.
